In general WiMAX is a very affordable broadband option because it requires no digging of trenches for laying of cables and wires. However, in the lower, sub-1 GHz frequencies, signals propagate farther, penetrating through trees and buildings and bend around obstacles. This means that service can reach subscribers at a far greater distance from the base station than in higher frequencies. This has a dramatic impact on the cost of deployments.
