Meeting 4G broadband data demands with Pico cell technology and small cell backhaul

Airspan’s AirSynergy product is a pico cell base station with advanced technology. Not only does the base station operate WiMAX or LTE platforms, but the base station is the first of its kind to also integrate self-provisioning backhaul.

4G networks differ from 2G and 3G networks in many ways, but the most significant difference is the change in network topology. 4G OFDMA standards enshrine the concept of heterogeneous cell deployment, meaning that networks now combine multiple layers of Macro, Micro, Pico and Femto cell infrastructure. Carriers rolling out LTE networks intend to deploy large numbers of outdoor Pico cells in urban centers in order to meet the overwhelming demand for mobile broadband data services.

Airspan’s response is a groundbreaking Pico cell solution called AirSynergy, which integrates a new, intelligent, outdoor, small cell backhaul technology called iBridge. iBridge is a super high capacity proprietary OFDMA point-to-multipoint technology that includes support for both relay and meshed connectivity. iBridge operates in 400 MHz up to 6 GHz bands and delivers >10 bits/Hz/sec non-line-of-sight (NLOS) operation in both urban and rural environments.
