BOCA RATON, FLNOVEMBER 3, 2004 -- Airspan
Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq: AIRN), a leading worldwide provider of
broadband wireless access networks, including WiMAX standard systems,
announced today that it has signed an agreement with Last Mile
Wireless of Athlone, Ireland for deliveries of Airspans
point -to-multipoint WipLL and 802.16a-based AS4030 products.
The equipment will be used in the Irish Midlands area to provide
high-speed broadband Internet services in the 3.7 GHz frequency
to Last Miles broadband customers.
Last Mile has been in business since 2002, building and operating
wireless broadband networks to serve business and residential
customers in the Midlands of Ireland, an area that includes all
of counties Westmeath, Offaly, Roscommon, Longford and parts of
the surrounding counties. With nine licenses to operate fixed
wireless networks in the region, Last Mile has been successful
in attracting Group Broadband Scheme funding from the Irish government
to finance some of its expansion. The company currently serves
500 customers with its wireless networks, and expects to add more
than 2,000 to that number by the end of 2005 with the deployment
of the Airspan equipment.
John Gibbons, Director of Last Mile, commented: We first
introduced Airspan products into our network in January 2004.
The modularity of the Airspan solution gave us the most flexible
and efficient way to manage and control the deployment of our
network. WipLL gives us a complete package of high quality radio
connectivity, a wide range of possible applications and comprehensive
management systems - all at an attractive price that will provide
a swift return on our investment.
Airspan's WipLL platform is a low-cost high-performance Fixed
Wireless Access system designed to deliver high-speed data, Voice
over IP (VoIP) and multimedia services to residential, small business
and enterprise customers. WipLL is capable of delivering burst
data speeds of up to 4 Mbps (3.2Mbps net) to each customer. WipLL
introduces real-time adaptive modulation (2-, 4-, 8-level FSK)
and auto retransmission request (ARQ); features that offer high
quality services whilst maximizing spectrum utilization. WipLL
is available in both licensed bands (700 MHz, 2.5GHz, 2.7-2.9GHz
and 3.4-3.8GHz) and unlicensed bands (900MHz, 2.4GHz and 5.8GHz).
AS4030 is a high-end broadband wireless system for access and
distribution applications, typically used to provide service to
business applications and for Cellular/Backhaul Trunking. Based
on robust WiMAX-based OFDM technology that can provide service
in Line-of-Sight and Non Line-of-Sight deployment situations,
AS4030 can deliver just IP, or IP and E1/T1s services. The product
is ideally suited to providing service bundles to small and medium
business consisting of a dedicated 2Mbit/s IP connection combined
with a full or fractional E1/T1.
