Airspan Appoints Four Executives to Senior Management Team

London, May 24, 1999 - Airspan Communications Limited, a leading provider of Wireless Local Loop (WLL) equipment and services, has recently appointed four senior executives to help support its rapid growth in the WLL sector of the telecommunications market.

The company has also moved its global headquarters from Feltham to Uxbridge, UK as part of this expansion.

The new appointments include the following:

Joseph Caffarelli joins as chief financial officer. Formerly, Mr Caffarelli was executive vice president and CFO of Physio-Control Corporation. He also spent nineteen years with the General Electric Company working for GE’s charismatic CEO, Jack Welch.

David Twyver joins as member of the Board of Directors. Mr Twyver is the former president of Nortel's Wireless division and brings 25 years of experience in all aspects of the global telecommunications equipment business.

Jonathan Paget has been appointed vice president of product management and is responsible for all aspects of current and future product planning. He was previously CEO of Telspec plc, a UK-based manufacturer of telecommunications systems, prior to which he held a number of general management positions with Motorola and Raychem.

Nigel J. Terry has been appointed vice president of sales, marketing and customer service. Mr Terry comes to Airspan from Madge Networks’ WAVE business unit as vice president and general manager. He brings over 20 years of experience in the telecoms and datacoms industries.

Airspan has experienced vigorous growth since its inception in February 1998 as a spin-off of DSC Communications Corporation (now part of Alcatel). Its comprehensive portfolio of voice, data and ISDN service delivery favourably positions the company in a market predicted to attain a level of some $10 billion within a few years.

"This is an exciting time for Airspan. In the last 12 months we have installed infrastructure for thousands of lines in over 22 countries and have recently won a number of major contracts. We have also launched major initiatives, including PCS- and MMDS-band products to lead the North American market", said Eric Stonestrom, president and CEO of Airspan. "The wealth of solid experience brought by these new executives enable us to continue penetrating new markets at a rapid pace, enlarge our product portfolio, and lead the industry in WLL offerings."

Analysts expect the global WLL market to reach $4 billion by 2000. WLL may well become the predominant interconnection technology in developing regions.

About Airspan Communications

Airspan has pioneered the application of broadband Code Division Multiple Access, (CDMA) technology. The AS4000 system reinforces Airspan’s leadership in WLL technology by allowing carriers to boost subscriber capacity and add services such as ISDN, and high speed Wireless Internet Subscriber Line in locations where the telecommunications infrastructure is deficient or non-existent.

Existing Airspan customers include the Swedish national operator Telia, Polish operator BPT Telbank, Czech operator Aliatel and Boston-based Adesemi (formerly African Communications Group). In September 1998, the US IT magazine Red Herring, in its annual Herring 100 survey, included Airspan in its list of the Top 50 privately-held IT companies.
