Airspan
Selected by TES Media for Fixed Wireless Access
Deployment in the Czech Republic
London,
28 August 2000 - Airspan Networks Inc., (NASDAQ: AIRN), a provider
of fixed wireless access telecommunication systems, today announced that
it has signed a contract with TES Media, a Czech telecommunications operator,
to deploy a new fixed wireless telecommunications network across the Czech
Republic. The network, which will be based on Airspan's AS4000 fixed wireless
access platform, will deliver high-speed data services to business customers
when it launches in September.
A series of strategically positioned AS4000 base stations in 15 cities,
including Prague, will link TES Media customers throughout the country.
TES Media will also use Airspan's AS8100 system to monitor and manage
the network.
"Airspan was the logical choice for deploying a robust data service for
our business customers quickly, and at low cost," said Robert Gardner,
general director and CEO of TES Media. "We expect considerable demand
for the new services and are already looking at expanding the deployment
to include six other cities."
"Demand for high-speed data communications is increasing dramatically
in Central and Eastern Europe," said Jonathan Paget, executive vice president
and chief operating officer at Airspan. "Our product portfolio allows
service providers such as TES Media to respond immediately to market demands.
Our economical synchronous data capabilities are unmatched in the industry,
and it is a simple evolution of the existing TES Media platform to add
IP services and carrier class voice."
Airspan's AS4000 fixed wireless platform is suitable for both urban and
less densely populated areas, where copper or fiber local loops can be
extremely expensive or even impractical to use. Based on Code Division
Multiple Access (CDMA) technology, the AS4000 system offers a variety
of services, including integrated voice, data, ISDN, IP packet services
and Internet access. Its point-to-multi-point wireless architecture uses
a central radio site to connect customers within a cell radius of up to
25km.
