Airspan adds Carrier Wi-Fi to LTE Small Cell Solution
February 28th, 2012
Integrates LTE and Carrier Wi-Fi with high capacity NLOS OFDMA backhaul technology
Barcelona, Spain, Mobile World Congress, February 28, 2012 – Airspan Networks Inc., a leading provider of 4G broadband wireless access networks, today announced the integration of their carrier-grade Wi-Fi with its unique industry leading small cell LTE solution and the addition of a new high performance Outdoor Access Point that integrates Airspan’s iBridge backhaul technology with carrier-grade Wi-Fi access. This new combined solution enables carriers to deploy cost-effective, higher capacity networks while better serving their user base with higher throughput and Wi-Fi connectivity.
Airspan has solved the bigger challenges carriers face in delivering capacity to subscribers through significant R&D investment in industry leading LTE and backhaul packages. The addition of the Wi-Fi portfolio allows carriers to consider an integrated approach to their 4G network deployments. Airspan’s Wi-Fi products have been deployed extensively in various heavy–use industries including mining, oil and gas, and transportation systems.
Airspan’s leading edge small cell AirSynergy and flagship Air4G base stations will be demonstrated live this week at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain from February 27 to March 1, 2012 at the Airspan booth in Hall 1, #C53.
The enhanced AirSynergy product offering is the only small cell solution supporting both LTE and Wi-Fi radio interfaces simultaneously with integrated non-line-of-sight (NLOS) backhaul technology that enables the rapid deployment of outdoor infrastructure. The solution is designed for carriers wanting to deploy one network that contains LTE Pico cells for implementing LTE-Advanced Heterogeneous Networks (HetNets) and Carrier Wi-Fi for data offload from congested 3G mobile networks.
Carriers rolling out small cell solutions are increasingly facing challenges of delivering backhaul to those cells. Small cells are often placed in locations that cannot economically be served with wired broadband connections or line-of-sight backhaul technology. Airspan’s unique iBridge technology enables NLOS, point-to-multipoint backhaul to small cells and the ability to relay traffic between cells to optimize capacity and latency.
Carriers will benefit from Airspan’s solution with;
The integrated iBridge / Wi-Fi outdoor access point, 4GProAP, is Airspan’s 5th generation of outdoor user device technology and provides easy-to-deploy carrier-grade Wi-Fi technology for small cell deployment. The 4GProAP has the following features:
“We are very enthusiastic about our integrated small cell product offering,” commented Paul Senior, Chief Technical Officer at Airspan Networks. “We have incorporated our proven, industrial-grade Wi-Fi technology into our LTE offering allowing carriers to build a single network for both LTE HetNet and outdoor carrier Wi-Fi deployments. Uniquely, our single platform includes the critical small cell backhaul solution that is missing in every other vendor solution. We truly have the first fully-featured solution for the burgeoning small cell market that will dominate carrier rollouts over the next 10 years”.
